About Dr. Carl H. Oppenheimer

The bio-agent BioRangers handles, "Oppenheimer Formula," was developed by the late Dr. Carl Oppenheimer, professor emeritus at the University of Texas and a leading authority in marine microbiology. Dr. Oppenheimer is known worldwide as one of the founders of modern bioremediation technology, and he devoted his life to researching and developing technology to remediate oil (petroleum hydrocarbon) contamination with low environmental impact. He was also someone who maintained a strong passion for collecting archaea from soil and water and applying their capabilities to contamination remediation. When the tanker "Mega Borg" exploded off the Gulf of Mexico in June 1990 and released a large volume of crude oil, Dr. Oppenheimer played a major role in meeting the difficult challenge of Texas conducting marine bioremediation for the first time in the United States, and the first time in the world.

Reliable remediation through bioaugmentation

Bioremediation has two methods: "biostimulation" and "bioaugmentation." The former activates indigenous microbes by supplying oxygen and nutrients, but it has had the drawback that the effect tends to be unstable if there are not enough microbes capable of breaking down the contaminants.

Bioaugmentation, on the other hand, is an approach that directly introduces microbes suited to the contaminants at the site. With this method, the introduced microbes break down the contaminants as intended, enabling reliable, highly reproducible remediation in a short period.

By adopting this bioaugmentation, BioRangers achieves effective remediation.

Breaking down oil and VOC contamination with complex microbial communities

Oil and VOC contamination differs in composition and characteristics from substance to substance, and sites where multiple types of oil are mixed together are not uncommon.

Oppenheimer Formula is a complex bio-agent containing a high concentration of microbes collected from the natural world. Microbial communities adept at breaking down oil and VOCs work together to break down complex contamination efficiently.
